Insights of International Week of the Deaf celebrations with ConnectHear.

On Sunday, ConnectHear in partnership with District 19 organized a movie screening fundraiser, to both kick off the International Week of the Deaf and bring together people to help those most affected by the floods across Pakistan.

The movie we chose to screen was the Oscar-winning “CODA”. Its story revolves around Ruby Rossi who is a child of deaf adults (CODA) and the only hearing member of a deaf family, as she tries to help her family's small fishing business, while also trying to become a singer herself.

This movie helps hearing audiences understand the various struggles both Deaf people and their friends and family go through in a society that doesn’t care for their needs. It helps everyone rethink their approach toward Deaf people and encourages them to play their part in making Deaf people feel more accepted and inclusive.

We’re also proud to state that all the proceeds from this event went directly to causes that are helping flood victims across the country. For that, we are thankful to everyone that came together to help us kick off the International Week of the Deaf with the spirit of helping those that need it most.

Madiha Iftikhar, being the daughter of a deaf parent also graced the event with her presence. Her parents Syed Iftikhar Ahmed (Late) hosted Boltay Haath - PTV’s premiere sign language show - with his wife Rehana Iftikhar, using sign language to reach out to people with speaking and hearing disabilities.

What did everyone else have to say about the event?

We’re so proud of not just our team that put this event together but also everyone that joined us and helped in making this event successful. Thank you all!
